So what makes Merc so special? Well, I like to think that we have, within our team, a pretty cool culture. It's the players that make the team great. Everyone is an upstanding individual that pitches in to make what we have so cool. Every one of them is like a brother to me.

On the field we move fast and hit hard. But in this team, there is no pressure to perform and no forced style of play. The way you like to play is the way we want you.

The Mercenaries, is SLC's second Airsoft team created by veteran players that have been playing the sport for decades. With this experience, we built a tight-knit team that has an easy flowing, fun atmosphere with more truly dedicated players than anything else made before it.

Most people reading this want to know why we're different – so let me get down to specifics:

#1: We are a tight-knit team of players and friends – not a giant organization. If you are looking for a group of players that are all close friends and enjoy each other's company, The Mercenaries is for you. If you're looking for a team to dedicate your time and energy into because you love to play with all the people in the team, then you're the player we're looking for. The biggest thing for us, and the main reason we stick with this sport, is the great comradery we all have.

A lot of things are compromised when an Airsoft groups focus is getting large numbers of players. For Merc, the number one priority will always be the team, and catering to the needs of the truly honorable players we already have. We'll never compromise gameplay for numbers. With a smaller team, you can be assured you don't get lost in the fold. We also have much faster turn-around time for games. Down-time is a lot less. That means more gaming and more good times.

Within the team, and during games, we are sure to leave out the silly things that ruin Airsoft like: needless political BS, "I'm better than you" attitudes, an uncooperative hierarchy, and unmotivated game days with hours of standing around between each scenario.

Every team member in Merc has an equal say in how we run the team and every one of them pitches in to make the team better. We put a lot of effort into taking all the players needs seriously. We do not have a set administration that dictates the team's direction. Instead, we take team votes on the big stuff that affects us all so that the greater voice of the team is heard.

We try to make the team as democratic as possible. Everyone has a say and a responsibility to make the team as fun as possible. We are all equal players. Some days, I might have an idea that no one loves and that's just too bad for me. Other times, someone might have a great idea and then get to implement it because we all support it. It's a good thing. We all help out and it makes a lot of things go really smooth.

We like to keep it simple. We don't bog the game down with needless "fluff" we can do without. We're here to have fun. Our team does not exist to hone a competitive edge to out-perform any other team or offer amazing super special techno-ninja spec-ops training. We have an interest in tac-sim and mil-sim but we don't build the team off that. If that's what you like, great, there are lots of team members that love to move in squads, throw out hand signs and use good radio chatter (I love that stuff). If you prefer a more aggressive run-and-gun approach, that's fine too. We don't have a set style or doctrine that makes you do anything – just play how you feel like playing. There will be plenty of people that want to play like that too, and they'll move right along with you.

All Merc games are "invite" only. With this closed-door policy, we are sure to bring good players into the game that have shown they are respectful of the rules and the players around them. At a Merc game, you'll never have that group of hard-asses that just wants to show up, be dicks and then never come back. Instead, you'll always be assured that even the newest players, at any event, are great people to be around.

Every Merc member has been voted into the team by his peers. You can always be assured that every player in the team is 100% honorable, respectful, honest and reliable. There will never be any of the issues that arise caused by a few bad seeds that ruin the day for everyone else. I like to think that we have, within our team, a pretty cool culture. Summed up in one sentence: The Mercs are a team of great guys that are all great friends and share a love for the sport and the team. I like to think these things make us special.

We just like to play Airsoft. If you do too, then we'll all get along great. That's all there is to it.

The reason I bring it up is because I’ve heard a lot of people say they really wanted to play in Merc but weren’t sure if they were “good enough”.

All the info you've heard can be summed up like this: To play with Merc, the only thing we require is that you want to be a fully functional part of the team, you agree with the rules we play by and that you enjoy playing with the other players. Just ask yourself if that's how you feel and that's all there is to it! If it's those few things that fuel your desire to be a Merc, than I can assure you we'll all get along great! We all find those things to be the most important part of the team, so, as a Merc, you’ll be surrounded by other players that all feel the same.

If you want to play Airsoft, come on out! Don't be afraid to ask! There are a lot of good times to be had. Just because this thread is written in serious manner has nothing to do with how easy it is to join the team. I've talked to a lot of players that would make perfect Mercs, but were too intimidated by all the info in the thread to come out and play. That means we all lose. If you want to be a functional part of a team and play with good friends, then step up! Email us an invite request.

I've also talked to old Utah Airsoft players (that have never played with Merc) that are burned out from playing in whatever environment it is that they play in and have actually considered not playing anymore. Don't miss out on the best game ever invented! Try playing with a different group of people. Maybe you'll love the game again if you just mix up a few things. (of course, if you've gotten in a lot arguments with other people because of your sloppy play then you need not apply).

But really, we're not elitist Airsoft snobs. We don't do too much different from any of the other teams. The main thing that makes us unique is we just have higher expectations for our teammates. The only thing we require is that our players think of the team as something important that they are a part of. They just need to follow the rules and respect all the players that are around them. But, think about it: this entire sport revolves around that honor system; this should be the minimum requirement for anyone. The majority of the players out there would make a good Merc.
